During a joint dinner on February 4th 2025, in the Restaurant Porto, in Hamburg, the ILPS Willem Van Nieuwenhuyzen Award was presented to Dr. Michael Schneider for his outstanding merits in the field of research, development, application and analysis of lecithin and phospholipids. Hardly anyone else has such comprehensive knowledge of the various applications of these natural products.

 

Next to the Executive Director of the ILPS Rute Azevedo, the former president Lucas Meyer and the current president Heidi Schmitt were present.  

 

Many milestones of his work were remembered as well as the many years working together at the company Lucas Meyer, widely known as "The Lecithin People".

 

One of these milestones was his activity in founding the ILSG in 1984, the forerunner of the ILPS and, his activities in organizing scientific meetings, congresses and short courses on lecithin and phospholipids.
